WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says an inmate who died while being held at the Black Hawk County Jail died of meth intoxication.

Authorities arrested 34-year-old James Terrell Taylor of Waterloo on two warrants for failure to appear (OWI and possession of controlled substance) on March 7.

Later that day, a deputy found Taylor unresponsive in the Black Hawk County Jail intake area.

Taylor died despite emergency aid from the sheriff's deputy and emergency treatment at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

DCI investigators found signs that indicated Taylor had ingested a controlled substance prior to his arrest.

The Office of the State Medical Examiner determined his cause of death was accidental acute amphetamine/methamphetamine intoxication.
