Manchester officials alerted to suspicious van near school

Posted: Updated:

Manchester school and law enforcement officials are on heightened alert Thursday following a report of a suspicious van.

Manchester Police Chief Bruce Trapp said his department received a call around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday from staff members at West Delaware Middle School.

They had spotted a gold van sitting in the school's parking lot, and when staff members approached it, the driver -- a female -- drove away, leaving the area.

Trapp said police attempted to locate the vehicle but didn't find it. He had no information on the van's license plate.

The Manchester Police Department notified the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, which notified all schools in the county. The police also sent out a dispatch to all law enforcement agencies in the region, alerting them to the facts of the situation.

Trapp said there was no indication of or information about a threat. Still, he said, law enforcement officers are continuing to monitors schools Thursday.

Anybody with information on the gold van spotted around noon Wednesday in the parking lot of Manchester's West Delaware Middle School can call Manchester Police at 563-927-3355.
