Catholic Worker House in Waterloo gets donation to fight bedbugs

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - Resident workers at the Catholic Worker House are grateful for the people's generosity after the shelter exhausted its reserve funds to get rid of bedbugs.

KWWL first reported the problem on Saturday after the 9-bed shelter had to spend $5,900 to fix a bedbug problem.

Volunteers were hopeful the public would help the shelter recover its losses.

"We're kind of back to square one, but you know when you have a good cause there's no shortage of people willing to help out," said Patrick McCarty on Saturday.

Resident workers told KWWL on Wednesday the shelter had already received more than $6,000 in donations to replenish its reserve funds, and they were appreciative of the public's support.

Additional donations can be dropped off or mailed to the St. Francis Catholic Worker House, located at 321 E. 8th Street in Waterloo, Iowa, 50703.
