VERMILLION, S.D. (KTIV) - For decades, the Dan Lennon track and field meet has been the first chance for Siouxland athletes to compete. The small school athletes were competing inside the DakotaDome at day two of the event on Tuesday.

In the girls shot put finals, the highest area finisher is Okoboji's Abby Taylor.  She finishes 6th with a toss of 33 feet 6 inches.

In the girls sprint medley relay, Sibley-Ocheydan's Leah Sievert anchors the Generals to a 3rd place finish in 3 minutes and 47 seconds. Spirit Lake Park takes 2nd.

In the boys medley relay, Kingsley Pierson-Woodbury Central's Nic Scheelhaase clocks in at 3 minutes 50 seconds to win his heat. However, KP-WC finishes second behind Okoboji. Jordan Hanna crosses one second faster to take the event title.

"It gives us a lot of confidence that we compete on this high a level with these kids," Hanna said.  "It just helps a lot."

In the 60 meter hurdles, KP-WC sophomore Joe Hayden finishes third with an 8-second time.

In the 60 meter dash, Hinton junior Blake Mossberg finsihes second crossing in 7 seconds.

In the girls 60 meter finals, Pierce sophomore Casey Sutherland edges teammate Jacy Bretschneider by a tenth of a second to win the crown.

"It's really cool to go 1-2 with Jacy becauase we're teammates," Sutherland said.  "It's really fun to race against her and she pushes me to do my best."
