DUBUQUE (KWWL) - Organizers with Honor Flight of Greater Dubuque say they are finalizing details for two flights to Washington D.C. in May.

These will be the ninth and tenth Honor Flights of Greater Dubuque, scheduled for Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20.

Perry Mason, general sales manager at Radio Dubuque, leads the flights' organization. He said the veterans and guardians are all lined up for the May flights.

There are a small handful of seats left for veterans, however, and Mason encourages any WWII veteran who has never before seen his or her war's memorial in Washington to apply for one of the May trips.

Honor Flight is a nationwide organization dedicated to ensuring WWII veterans, and now Korean War veterans, get a chance to see their war's memorial in the nation's capital.

Veterans take a whirlwind tour of Washington DC, in a trip lasting less than 24 hours. Veterans are assigned a guardian, or somebody to assist them along the tour.

Honor Flight of Greater Dubuque has historically taken two groups of veterans on back-to-back flights every year, in order to save on the cost of air travel. Approximately 90 veterans go on each flight.

The trip is always free for the WWII and Korean War veterans going.
