Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Getting into Iowa City is about to become more difficult.

The Iowa Department of Transportation will begin construction on Interstate 80 at the Dubuque Street interchange the week of March 31.

Weather permitting, traffic patterns will shift on April 8. Traffic will shift to the southbound lanes of Dubuque Street with one lane or traffic in each direction between Linder Road and Foster Road.

The westbound exit ramp is also expected to close April 8. Traffic will be diverted to the 1st Avenue exit.

The closures will be in place for both the Hawkeyes' spring football game and the University of Iowa's commencement ceremonies.

Construction is expected to wrap up in June.
