The Cedar Valley's take on soaking up March Madness

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - Brackets, beer and an ample dose of basketball. March Madness is here, and people in the Cedar Valley have a special concoction for watching the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

Some fans said on your couch at home is the way to go.

"Just myself and the dog, that way there's no one else yelling... You get to actually watch the game without all the extra stuff going on around you," Rick Keller said.

Meanwhile, others prefer to camp out at restaurants while the madness ensues.

"I like to head down to Smitty's in Waterloo," Ryan Bennett said.

Whether folks are in the comfort of their own homes, or at a local joint, enthusiasts said the company is one of the best parts of watching the games. Family, friends, neighbors - some think, the more the merrier.

Some also argue it simply wouldn't be March Madness without the never-ending tap of fried favorites.

"Wings! Wings are a priority," Bennett Ford said. Others reach for the chips and dip, or, "whatever is in the refrigerator," according to Keller.

All that's left to do is fill out a bracket, pick the winning team and gear up for game time. Friday begins with Duke and Mercer taking the court at 11:15 a.m. CT. The Iowa State Cyclones will play North Carolina Central at 8:50 p.m. Friday.
