Casino backers in Cedar Rapids gearing up for Gaming board visit

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

There are just two weeks left for Linn County casino investors to prepare to impress the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.

The commission will go to Cedar Rapids for a site visit April 3.

City leaders say they'll take commissioners on a tour of the flood-damaged west side, where the casino will be located. They plan to show them why a casino is needed in the city.

"We need it for flood protection, is one reason," said Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett. "We need it for jobs. We need it for the whole redevelopment of the west side, (to) put property back on the tax roll. So the list is certainly long."

The site visit also includes a public forum and a question-and-answer session.

The commission will decide whether or not it will issue a Cedar Rapids casino license on April 17.
