TechWorks District needs more funding to continue

Posted: Updated:
While there's money from investors, after a few road blocks with tax credits, more money is needed to help fund the TechWorks district.

The campus will include a hotel, John Deere training facility, space for a renewable technology program for Hawkeye Community College and even a marina.

On Friday, developers submitted an application to the Iowa Reinvestment district program to keep the project moving forward.
"The additional fund that the new hotel, the new retail activity at the museum and some of the other locations, would generate the state portion, not the local portion, would be delivered to the city to support the project," said Steve Dust, Greater Cedar Valley Alliance and Chamber.
It may take years before all of the projects are completed with the TechWorks project, but according to Dust, that's what's nice about this reinvestment program.

He says the revenue stream that's generated from the smaller projects like the hotel and museum will be during a time that's needed to fulfill the rest of the project.
