Masonville clerk accused of stealing money from city

Posted: Updated:
MASONVILLE (KWWL) - The city clerk of Masonville has been charged in federal court with defrauding the city for nearly a decade.

Christine Anne King was charged with two counts of mail fraud, both federal charges. She pleaded not guilty to both charges Thursday in Cedar Rapids federal court.

Prosecutors allege King issued herself "unauthorized and fraudulently inflated payroll and expense reimbursement checks" between July 2002 and October 2011.

She's charged in federal court with mailing false financial reports for the city in fiscal years 2009 and 2010 in order to cover up the fraud.

It was unclear from the indictment how much money King is alleged to have stolen.

King's trial date is set for May 19.
