Waterloo demolishes old Lafayette Elementary for houses

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The City of Waterloo is demolition the old Lafayette Elementary School in Waterloo.

Mayor Buck Clark says Waterloo is paying to demolish the school, but the Black Hawk Contracting and Development will buy the property when the demolition is finished.

Black Hawk Contracting and Development plans on building houses on the land.

The development will mean property tax revenue for the city in the long-run, and the developer was given a deal for the land.

Clark calls the deal a “win-win” for both parties.

    The United Way in Cedar Rapids is celebrating its 100th year with a community-wide birthday party at Brucemore.The event will take place Sunday, August 3 from 12pm-4pm. There will be a special event on the main stage at 2:30pm. The event is free, and is open to the public. Activities at the event will include: photo booth, bounce houses, story time with the Cedar Rapids Library, free cupcakes and ice cream, water balloon toss, food for purchase from Hy-Vee, and live entertainment.More >>
