St. Patrick's Day parade in Cedar Rapids draws thousands

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Cedar Rapids turned a sea of green Monday for the SaPaDaPaSo parade.

It was the 39th annual event, put on by the Saint Patrick's Day Parade Society. The first two letters of each of those words create the SaPaDaPaSo name.

The parade is held every year on St. Patrick's day, no matter what day of the week or what temperature it is outside.

"It's just a family tradition," said Matt Davis, parade marshal. "My dad started it back in the early '70s, and we've been doing it ever since."

Even though the holiday fell on a Monday this year, thousands of people still showed up.
