PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. (KWWL) -

An Olympian with a shiny bronze medal was welcomed home in his home town of Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, Friday evening. Matt Antoine won a bronze medal in Skeleton during this years winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Antoine said Friday evening that he could feel the support from his home town all the way in Sochi.

"In Sochi I could see all the messages, the tweets, all the articles being written about how excited everyone was and it got me excited just to know how much I meant to the community." Antoine said.

That community support was felt Friday evening as many filled the Dousman House in Prairie Du Chien Friday night to meet the Olympian and honor his accomplishments. Antoine said he was excited to share this experience with his hometown.

"I got to enjoy it in Sochi obviously, with my family there, I was able to enjoy it with them. Now that I am back here I get to relive it all over again with the community." Antoine said.

During the homecoming reception, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) announced March 14, 2014 as Matt Antoine Day in the state of Wisconsin. The following day, March 15, was declared Matt Antoine Day in the city of Prairie Du Chien. While the day was about celebration, Antoine reminded all how much determination and work it takes to make it to the Winter Olympics. He said he has some has some advice for those who hope to make it to the Olympics someday, too.

"It's all about hard work and keeping at it." Antoine said, "a lot of people that have talent, but not a lot of people have the discipline and the drive to keep going when it comes to sports. So that is really what will separate you from other people."

The reception held on Friday was hosted by the of Prairie Du Chien Area Chamber of Commerce.
