DES MOINES (KWWL) -     Iowa Senator Jack Hatch has made is gubernatorial campaign official by filing his nomination papers before the 5 p.m. Friday deadline.
    The Democrat from Des Moines got 10,655 signatures on his petitions to put him on the June Democratic primary ballot; the Senator needed at least 4,113 signatures to qualify.
    Governor Terry Branstad filed his papers to run for his sixth non-consecutive term as governor last month.
    The Governor had 10,745 names; he needed 3,654.
    The difference in signatures needed for both candidates is based on votes that were cast for the party’s candidate for president during the 2012 general election.
