Firefighters say stay off the ice

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - As the weather warms up, ice on Iowa waterways is melting. While no injuries have been reported in Cedar Rapids, the Fire Department is still asking people to stay off waterways covered by ice.

Firefighters say water may be flowing underneath the ice making it unstable.

They warn that dark snow and dark ice are signs of weak spots.

While Cedar Rapids firefighters have not had to rescue a human from the water this week, they did have to save a dog that was floating down the river on a piece of ice.
