Former Dunkerton football player found guilty of gun on bus

DUNKERTON (KWWL) - A former Dunkerton football player has been found guilty of bringing a gun and drugs to school.

Dunkerton Community School District officials searched 18-year-old Mar'yo Lindsey's bag on August 30 after the team returned to the school following a game in Riceville and found a gun and marijuana.

The bag was left on the bus because Lindsey had been taken to a hospital after being injured during the game.

Lindsey never returned to school and was apprehended in Texas in November and returned to Iowa.

In February, Lindsey's attorney filed a motion to dismiss the evidence found in the bag, claiming the search was illegal.

Judge Kellyann Lekar later ruled the search was legal, and the defense agreed to move forward with a bench trial.

Judge David Staudt ruled on Thursday that Lindsey was guilty on all counts -- felon in possession of a firearm, carrying weapons, carrying weapons on school grounds and possession of marijuana.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 7 at 9 a.m.
