Authorities in southeast Iowa investigate riot

Posted: Updated:
FAIRFIELD (AP) -

A riot broke out on a campus in southeast Iowa attacking a county sheriff.

Authorities say they are still investigating why at least 70 people pushed the marked patrol vehicle Tuesday, and threw rocks at Sheriff Gregg Morton while he was in his car.

Morton and responding officers were not injured, but they say the large group gathered as they were assisting personnel in escorting a pandit leader off the property.

As the leader was put in a van, that's when the group attacked.

There are no charges pending because they can't determine who threw the rocks.
