State Senate passes texting while driving bill

Posted: Updated:
DES MOINES (KWWL) -     Some Iowa lawmakers don’t think that a Senate texting and driving bill does enough to tackle the broader issue of distracted driving in the state; however, that highly debate measure passed the Senate on Tuesday on a vote of 41 to 7.
Under current Iowa, it is prohibited to text and drive, but it is considered a secondary offense so drivers are only penalized if they’re pulled over for a different violation; the new bill would allow officers to pull drivers over specifically for texting and driving.
The bill now moves to the House.
