OTTUMWA (AP) -

Jurors have found an Ottumwa man guilty of second-degree murder in the beating death of a man in 2011.

The Ottumwa Courier reports it took jurors only a couple of hours Monday to reach the guilty verdict for Bobby Snow.

He was charged with killing James McElroy in May 2011.

Prosecutor Laura Roan told jurors in her closing arguments that Snow didn't intend to kill McElroy, but he intended to injure him -- and that qualified as the malice needed for a second-degree murder conviction.

Roan noted, "One right hook to the chin knocked him out cold. Knocked him out permanently."

Defense attorney Ron Danks told jurors many people involved in the incident were drunk, and that the combination of alcohol and emotions can make people unpredictable.

Sentencing will be held later.
