Local pilots weigh in on missing Malaysian flight

Crews are still searching for a Malaysian flight carrying 239 people, gone without a trace. It vanished somewhere between Malaysia and Vietnam on its way to Beijing, China.

The situation is something Livingston Aviation general manager, Tim Newton was surprised to hear.

"Normally there's some sort of evidence of something going on, whether it's debris, or communication from the pilots," said Newton.

Newton has been in aviation for nearly 18 years. He says communication is key when flying and it's nearly impossible to lose contact with a plane.

"Airplanes are under radar surveillance in air traffic control from the minute they land again. So it would be about impossible for it to happen in the United States. Obviously it can happen but it's really, really unusual," said Newton.
