7-year-old snowboarder has Olympic dreams

A young eastern Iowa snowboarder continues to make a name for himself on the slopes. Dubuque native Wesley Muresan began navigating the slopes of Sundown Mountain Ski Resort in Dubuque at just 3 years old.

"I wanted to take the kids outside to play. I put him on a snowboard and I thought he could just go down the bunny hill and he had other ideas," Wesley's mom, Danelle Muresan-Foster said laughing.

Now 7-years-old, Wesley is still snowboarding. He is currently the youngest member of the Tyrol Bison Snowboarding Team in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin.

Keith Kubiesa is one of the snowboarding instructors for that team.

"He is the younger kid on our snowboarding team," Kubiesa said Sunday. "He has been with us since he was 5 years old and we made a special exception for him, normally we don't let kids that young join."

Wesley also competes in competitions all across the United States. This winter he won the Pint Size Ripper award at the 2014 Transworld SNOWboarding TransAM tour.

In the coming weeks, Wesley will be heading to Colorado to compete in the USASA Snowboarding Nationals.
