UPDATE WITH NAME: Inmate dies at Black Hawk Co. jail

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office has released the name of an inmate who died while in custody Friday night.

James T. Taylor, 34, of Waterloo was being held in the intake area of the Black Hawk County Jail, according to officials.

Officials say at 6:25 p.m. Friday, Taylor was found to be unresponsive.


The

deputy who found Mr. Taylor began administering aid, according to the report.

An ambulance then took Taylor to a Waterloo hospital, where he died.

Deputies say Taylor was being held on two warrants for failure to appear (OWI and possession of a controlledsubstancee).

An autopsy was performed Saturday by the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office. The cause of death is still awaiting results of a toxicology test.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the matter.
