State GOP chairman stepping down

Posted: Updated:
DES MOINES (KWWL) -

As the Republican and Democratic parties came together this weekend for county conventions, the chairman of the Iowa Republican Party announced he's stepping down from his post.

A.J. Spiker turned in his resignation Friday.

The Iowa GOP announced the decision on its Facebook page Saturday night.

In the announcement, Spiker didn't give a reason for his decision but says he'll stay on until a new state chairman is elected March 29 by the state central committee.
