Fire destroyed this Clayton County house Saturday afternoon
CLAYTON COUNTY (KWWL) -
A woman is without a house following a Saturday afternoon fire.
Guttenberg fire chief Chad Esmann said crews responded to the house fire around 12:30 p.m.
By mid-afternoon, Esmann said the house was a total loss, though he did not yet know the cause of the fire. He said, however, he was aware that the house was heated by a wood stove and had no electricity.
The woman who lived in the home was not hurt, and the Red Cross of the Tri-States provided her with shelter, Esmann said.
The building directly to the south of the burning house will likely have some slight smoke damage, Esmann said. It's a business that sells honey. The house directly to the north, however, will likely not have any damage, due to the direction of the wind.
Crews responded from Guttenberg, New Vienna, Holy Cross and Colesburg.
Leslie Hospitality owner Edwin Leslie says he doesn't have anything to hide, and to prove it he invited the public to view all of the documents, emails, agreements, and financial statements related to the deal at a public meeting this morning.
