SHELL ROCK (KWWL) - Five rail cars went off the tracks near the Shell Rock elevator early Friday morning, with two of the cars spilling some of their cargo, according to Iowa Northern Railway officials.

Joshua Sabin, Director of Administration for Iowa Northern Railway Company, says the cars -- three empty and two loaded with corn -- derailed at around 12:48 a.m. Friday morning.

Sabin adds that the train is made up of two locomotives and 22 other cars.

He says the train is blocking the road adjacent to the elevator, but they hope to have that reopened by Friday night.

No injuries have been reported and crews are on the scene investigating.

Sabin indicated that the two cars carrying corn "did rupture and some corn did spill." He did not know amounts.
