Health Plus: Cut out pop in your diet

Posted: Updated:

Perhaps you're observing Lent, and often that means giving something up to show a sacrifice.

Chocolate, fast food and soda pop are often at the top of those lists.

But we may all want to give up pop tonight. It does much more than give us a caffeine fix...and not in a good way.

Mary Steffensmeier with Covenant has the following suggestions for what to do with your leftover pop:

Have rust on your car? Grab a can of pop and make it look good as new.

Do you need to clean the toilet? Pour the can into the bowl for a shine that just about sparkles.

"Get back to nature and do more pure water," Steffensmeier said.

Every time you drink a pop, she said, you cause more tooth decay and G.I. distress like heartburn and other stomach issues.

Diet drinks aren't much of a better alternative either.
