DES MOINES (KWWL) - Patients and medical experts spoke out about the positive uses of medical marijuana at the capital on Wednesday.
Family members of patients with cancer and epilepsy testified before the Senate Commerce Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Committee, making an argument in favor of the legalization of the drug; they say marijuana can be used to lessen the side effects of pain-relieving and seizure-related drugs.
Some lawmakers in support of medical marijuana, who acknowledge the measure won’t pass this session, hope that the hearings will education legislators about the positive uses of the drug and give the legislation to legalize it a brighter future next year.
