Judge strikes down rule canceling voter’s registration

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

A ruling from a judge says Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz did not have the right to cancel a voter’s registration if those voters don’t appear to be United States citizens.
The ruling, considered a victory for the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa, was made Wednesday by Polk County Judge Scott Rosenberg.
The ACLU sued Schultz about the rule he tried to pass before the 2012 general election; the proposal was stopped in 2012, but in 2013 Schultz made it a permanent rule.
Rosenberg said Wednesday that state law doesn’t authorize Schultz to make such rules, and prohibits him from taking any further action about the rule.
