IOWA CITY (KWWL) - A missing 83-year-old man has been found safe after going missing for more than 24 hours.

William John Madden, Jr., 83, of Iowa City, was found safe, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office said in a press release Tuesday at around 2:30 p.m., just hours after asking for the public's assistance in locating Madden Jr.

Police released no other information.

Johnson County officials are asking for the public's help in finding a missing Iowa City man.

William John Madden, Jr., 83, of Iowa City, has been missing from the Iowa City area since 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

Madden Jr. may be driving a gray 1996 Lincoln Town Car with Iowa license plate AOJ 406.

It was unclear what Madden Jr. was wearing, but he apparently usually wears blue jeans with a black and gray coat, blue sneakers and a hat.

Those who may have seen Madden Jr. are asked to call the Johnson County Sheriff's Office at (319) 356-6800 or their local law enforcement agency.
