Crestwood advances and CPU falls at 3A Girls State Basketball Tourney

At the Girls State Basketball tournament in Wells Fargo Arena Savannah Lentz of Crestwood hit three 3-pointers during a three-minute stretch in the second half to give the second-ranked Cadets some breathing room and they went on to beat No. 8 Bondurant-Farrar 54-41 in the opening game of the Class 3A tournament. 

Lentz had only two points before her big buckets and finished with 15. Madison Sickles also scored 15 for the Cadets and Tessa Anderson added 11 to go with 11 rebounds.  

It was the first state tournament victory in four visits for Crestwood, which takes a 22-2 record into Thursday's semifinal round. Crestwood will face Unity Christian in the semifinal round at 2:15 on Thursday afternoon.

In another 3A game, Alexis Conaway of MOC-Floyd Valley , an Iowa State volleyball recruit and three-time state high jump champion, finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in leading the top-ranked Lady Dutch to a 69-42 victory over No. 12 Center Point-Urbana in first-round Class 3A action. Center Point-Urbana finishes the season 18-7.
