EPWORTH (KWWL) -

Dubuque Wahlert raced to an 11-point halftime lead then survived a Cedar Rapids Xavier comeback and held on to win 70-62.  With the win, the Eagles advance to the 3A State Tournament in Des Moines.  The top-ranked Eagles used a stifling defense to take a 38-27 lead into halftime.  The Saints, led by Adam McDermott, stormed back to take a brief lead early in the 4th Quarter.  Wahlert made big plays down the stretch and converted free throws to outlast the Saints in the final minutes.  The Eagles will be the #5 seed in the 3A tournament and will play #4 seed Chariton at 2 p.m. March 11 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
