WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Today Waterloo West held a special assembly for the Wahawk Girls Basketball team heading to state--as well as various other--like its state championship girls bowling team -- and state champion wrestler Marcus Harrington.

For the Wahawk girls--- they have a chance to do something no West Girls Basketball team has ever done-- win a state title according to head coach Dr. Tony Pappas.

"This is our seventh trip to the state tournament, but the last one was in 2003. That's why we're so excited right now. We've got a great group of young ladies, and hopefully we can represent West High and Waterloo really well on Wednesday."

West meets Des Moines East in a first round game on Wednesday.
