Hudson and Cascade advance at Girls State Basketball Tourney

Posted: Updated:

Hudson had five players score in double figures and needed all of those points to beat Woodbury Central in a Class 2A first round game.

Athlete of the Week Casey Miles came within two rebounds of a triple-double as the fourth-ranked Pirates beat No. 14 Woodbury Central 84-75 to earn a berth in the state semifinals.

Miles scored 16 points, handed out 10 assists and grabbed eight rebounds to help Hudson improve to 24-1 on the season. Abby Hillmer led the Pirates with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting, Lindsey Koch scored 20, Amanda Cartney had 15 and Corey Miles 10. Next up for Hudson is a semifinal round game against Cascade.

Second-ranked Cascade shut down Manson-Northwest Webster from the start and carved out a 43-21 victory in the opening game of the Class 2A tourney.

It was a typical performance for the unbeaten Cougars, who came in giving up only 31.2 points a game and didn't even allow that. Cascade jumped to a 19-1 lead and was never threatened in holding 15th-ranked Manson-Northwest Webster to seven field goals for the game. Cascade improved to 4-0 in first-round games at state and is 26-0 for the season.
