DUBUQUE (KWWL) -
Three crashes Monday morning on and near the Julien Dubuque bridge caused some traffic woes.
The first crash happened at 7:05 a.m., when the driver heading eastbound on US 20/Dodge Street approached the Julien Dubuque bridge. She lost control of the vehicle she was driving and slid into the concrete guard wall on the south side of the road. The woman was not inured but police cited her for failing to maintain control of her vehicle, which sustained an estimated $3,000 in damage.
The second crash happened at 7:45 a.m., and has all the same details as above, even down to the citation and estimated $3,000 damage to her vehicle. This driver was also not injured.
The third incident was a three-car crash in the westbound lane of the bridge, but there were no injuries. Dubuque police spokesperson Lt. Scott Baxter said in an e-mail it was "the likely result of the cars slowing down for the other crash and drivers not paying attention."
"We had to shut down the eastbound lane for nearly an hour, and also had periodic, brief shut-downs of the westbound lane," Baxter said.
Icy roads may have contributed to the incidents, he said.
