VAN METER (AP) -

An Iowa man is now recovering after unintentionally shooting his own finger during target practice.

Zach Sainz, 29, accidentally let one of his fingers get in front of the 9mm handgun he was firing.

Authorities say it happened in Madison County Sunday afternoon at Badger Creek State Recreation Area.

Sainz was taken to a Des Moines hospital for the non-life threatening injury.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating.
