The Mines of Spain Recreation Area in Dubuque will be hosting a bird banding program on March 9, 2014, at 1 p.m. The program will be held at the E.B. Lyons Interpretive Center located at 8991 Bellevue Heights south of Dubuque.
The program will feature Loras College Professor, David Shealer. Shealer will determine identify, weigh, measure, sex and determine their health of the birds. The program will allow the public to assist in the capture of song birds and get a chance to hold and look at various song birds found in the area. Some of the birds that will be branded during the program may include the Black Capped Chickadee, White Breasted Nuthatch, Cardinals, Downy Woodpecker, Goldfinch and Tufted Titmouse.
The E.B. Lyons Interpretive Center will be open from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. with the program starting at 1 p.m.
