DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

An eastern Iowa man accused of trying to kill his wife in December is now behind bars.

Police arrested 44-year-old Robert McClain in Dubuque Wednesday for allegedly shooting and stabbing his wife on Dec. 21 in their Jackson County home, before shooting himself in the face.

Both McClain and his wife were hospitalized after the incident. The Jackson County sheriff's office said McClain and his wife were living just outside St. Donatus at the time.

Officials at the Jackson County sheriff's office got word McClain was currently residing in Dubuque, so they enlisted the Dubuque police department's help Wednesday in arresting McClain. He was living in the 3200 block of Hillcrest Road.

McClain is now in the Jackson County jail and faces three charges: Attempted Murder, a class B felony; Willful Injury, a class C felony and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, a class D felony.
