Woman accused of kidnapping Wisconsin newborn pleads not guilty

MADISON, Wis. (KWWL) -

The woman accused of kidnapping a newborn in Wisconsin entered a not guilty plea at a federal court hearing.

Kristen Smith is accused of kidnapping her nephew, Kayden Powell, in February.

The newborn was found a day later behind a gas station in West Branch. 

If found guilty of kidnapping her nephew, Smith faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Her trial is scheduled to begin in June in Madison, Wis.
