West girls earn first state trip since 2003

MARSHALLTOWN (KWWL) -

Four Wahawks hit double digits on Tuesday night as 3rd ranked Waterloo West defeated #6 Ankeny Centennial 62-47 to earn the school's first trip to the girls state tournament since 2003.

Blaire Thomas led the way with 15, Sammie Sproul and Kate Letkiewicz tallied 14 apiece, and Haley Puk added 12 in the Wahawks' victory.

After trailing in the 3rd quarter, West went on a 12-0 run to take the lead for good.  The win snapped a rough streak of 3 regional final losses in the past 4 seasons.

Waterloo West will open state play against Des Moines East on March 5.
