Co-workers, friends, and family members showed up to honor Claudette Meyer for 50 years of employment with the Rohlf Memorial Clinic in Waverly.
"I was definitely surprised," said Claudette Meyer.
Meyer currently works as a referral specialist at the clinic. She takes orders from doctors and makes appointments for patients at other clinics.
Co-workers said the 79-year-old is always smiling and is liked by everyone.
"She is an amazing person who has always put everybody but herself first. I've been here 20 years, and I've never heard her complain. She's an amazing lady for the company to have," said Clinic Administrator Sherri Beasley.
The Rohlf Memorial Clinic has had three different locations. Meyer has worked at all of them. She's worked under eight different managers, worked with nearly 30 physicians, and worked with about 100 other co-workers.
She's also witnessed the change from typewriters to computers and from paper charts to electronic medical records.
Meyer is the clinic's longest and oldest employee, but this isn't a retirement party... yet.
"I do plan to retire sometime this year," said Meyer.
Co-workers said they'll be sad to see Meyer go, but she deserves time for herself.
"She's proud of her work, her family, her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren. She's a nice person to know," said co-worker Kay Pagel.
Meyer never expected the surprise party but was happy it happened.
"I would like to thank everyone. It certainly was a surprise, but I've enjoyed it immensely," said Claudette Meyer.
