Man tied to 2006 murder escaped from work release program

TAMA COUNTY (KWWL) -

Police are looking for a man charged in connection to a 2006 murder.

The Iowa Department of Corrections reports Salvador Cruz, Junior failed to return to the Marshalltown Work Release Facility after work Thursday.

Cruz is now serving a 24-year sentence for two counts of intimidation with a weapon. Those charges stem from a rural Tama County party in 2006 where a fight broke out. Police say Cruz and another man fired handguns into the air, and Joshua Wohlman died as a result.
