Iowa Supreme Court will hear appeal on Iowa Juvenile Home

Posted: Updated:

Any actions to reopen the Iowa Juvenile Home have been stopped, with word that the Iowa Supreme Court will hear an appeal filed by Governor Terry Branstad.

The Iowa Supreme Court’s action stays the decision of the Polk County district court earlier this month.  A hearing date for the appeal has not been set.

In a statement, Governor Branstad said, "Since learning about the situation at the Juvenile Home, my utmost concern has been the health, safety and education of the children. We believe the children are now being well-served in licensed and accredited facilities where they are receiving the quality treatment and education they deserve.”
