OAKDALE (KWWL) - A guard at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale has been arrested in connection with a robbery in Cascade and possible officer impersonation and robbery in Linn County.

John M. Woerdehoff, 40, from Cedar Rapids and originally from Cascade, was arrested on Thursday afternoon in Cedar Rapids on a warrant from Dubuque County.

Captain Bob Lynn of the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office says Laurel Lemmer reported being robbed by a masked gunman in her garage in Cascade on Feb. 14.

Lynn says Linn County deputies found items from that robbery in Woerdehoff's home at 4624 Spring Meadow Place NE in Cedar Rapids during the execution of the search warrant on Thursday.

Officials say they also found items linking Woerdehoff to a Jan. 30 robbery in Linn County, where the victim was pulled over and robbed at gunpoint by someone impersonating a law enforcement officer. That incident took place on Highway 13, some four miles south of Central City.

Linn County sheriff Brian Gardner said he doesn't believe Woerdehoff was wearing his guard uniform at the time of the robbery, as the victim in the officer impersonation incident described the suspect as wearing all black, and those guard uniforms aren't black.

Woerdehoff is charged with first-degree robbery in Dubuque County. Charges for robbery and impersonating a law enforcement officer in Linn County are pending.

Woerdehoff is currently in the Dubuque County Jail.

Lynn says Woerdehoff is also a suspect in two burglaries in Cascade that happened in January.
