Red Cross calls for more blood donations

Posted: Updated:
The American Red Cross says this year's winter weather has driven down blood donations.

Officials say there is an urgent need for blood types O negative, O positive, A negative and B negative after the recent winter storm caused 400 blood drive cancellations nationwide with 13,500 donations being lost throughout country--especially in the south and on the East Coast.

Throughout the year, 50,000 blood donations have been lost because of the nearly 1,500 canceled blood drives throughout the nation--according to Red Cross officials.
