Part of Iowa City is currently under a precautionary boil advisory due to a water main break on Capitol Street near Lafayette Street on Wednesday evening.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources requested the precautionary boil advisory for the area west of Riverside Drive and University Heights. It does not include the University of Iowa, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics or Veteran's Administration hospital, which utilize a separate water supply.
The boil advisory is effective immediately, and the repair to the water main has been completed.
Residents are advised to boil water for one minute and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.
