Don Bosco falls short of 1A State Duals Title

Posted: Updated:

Fourteen. That's the number of times the Don Bosco wrestling team's found themselves in the state duals finals. But here in Wells Fargo, they were looking to hoist that championship trophy for the first time in four years.

The Dons would find themselves behind early, but rallied at the middle weights.

Down 17-6 -- T-J Even came up big at 152, pinning Ben Powers to pull within 5.

Next up at 170, it's Jake Hogan getting the job done. Hogan dominated Jordan Lee en route to a 17-2 tech fall pulling the meet even at 17.

Clarion Goldfield, however, came up big at Heavyweight. Trailing by 3 in the match, Mitch Gambrall would get the first period fall to swing the lead back to the Cowboys.

That was, until the next match at 106. The Dons' Dylan Schmitz returned the favor with a quick pin against Dylan Tate.

So it would come down to the final. Clarion-Goldfield's Justin Portilla would come up with the fall, clinching the title as the Dons fall short, 32-29.
