IRS encourages taxpayers use direct deposit for lower risk

Posted: Updated:

The IRS is encouraging taxpayers to receive their refunds via direct deposit into their bank accounts, as opposed to getting them via check in the mail, according to NBC News.

The IRS says there's no risk of your check being stolen or lost in the mail.

You're also able to split the refund between two or three accounts via direct deposit.

The number of filings at this time has already outpaced last year, with more than 27 million filed as of Feb. 7.

More than 95 percent of those were filed electronically.
