Teen found dead following Marshalltown fire

Posted: Updated:

A Marshalltown teen was found dead Monday night following a house fire.

Marshalltown Police Chief Michael Tupper says crews were called to the home in the 500 block of East Boone Street at around 11:05 p.m. Monday.

Tupper says when firefighters arrived, the fire was quickly consuming the home and they learned that someone was still inside the home.

Once the fire was put out, a 16-year-old boy was found dead inside. His name is not being released pending family notification.

Tupper says that while it doesn't appear criminal activity is responsible for the fire, he says it is very early in the investigation and they are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
