WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Hoover Middle School 8th Grade Concert Band will be holding a concert for the community Thursday night ahead of their performance at the Iowa Bandmasters Association's state conference.

Of the seven bands selected to play the conference, five are from eastern Iowa. They are Cedar Rapids Washington High School, directed by Jim Miller, Lisbon High School, directed by Jennifer Tiede, Hoover Middle School from Waterloo, directed by Ken Henze and Naomi Feldman, South East Junior High in Iowa City, directed by Bill Pringle, and the Iowa City High Jazz band, directed by Ryan Arp.

Hoover Middle School says they will perform a forty-minute concert, comprised of approximately 6-8 songs. They will also hold a pre-concert in the Waterloo area.

Bands had to submit a recorded audition containing 15 minutes of contrasting music, unedited with no talking to the Iowa Bandmasters Association in January.

The other bands playing the conference are the Winterset High School band and the Earlham Elementary School band.

The concert for the community is being held Thursday, May 8 at 7:00 PM at Russell Hall in Bengston Auditorium on the UNI campus.
