CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

The man accused of attacking a Cedar Falls police officer Christmas morning has entered a not guilty plea.

A written arraignment for Zach Church, 27, was filed Monday.

Church is pleading not guilty to assaulting a police officer, possession of a controlled substance, and operating under the influence.

Officer Bob Anderson shot Church at least two times after an altercation at 2nd Street and Hudson in Cedar Falls early Christmas morning.

Officer Anderson fired his weapon after he says Church beat him over the head, and Officer Anderson said he feared he'd lose consciousness.

Officers arrested Church several days later after he was released from the hospital.

A trial date for Zach Church has not been set.
